Patients, oncologists and cancer researchers are all united in the pursuit of answers to questions. “Will I get better?” “How long can she live with this?” “How can we develop a better treatment?”
This video begins with the patient perspective and the incredibly challenging questions they are confronted with. We follow the patient, represented as a circle, through their journey as they grapple with their diagnosis.
The perspective then shifts to that of the oncologist, who poses their own set of questions. We now see several circles, representing the complex and varied patients that they see every day. As the healthcare industry moves toward personalized medicine, the video illuminates the struggle for oncologists to take into account every single patient characteristic, such as genomic expressions and pre-existing conditions, and the impact that could have on patient outcomes.
The perspective then shifts one last time to that of the life sciences industry and government regulators and the circles shift as well to represent all of the different points of data that are available to help answer some of these questions. Yet questions remain as these two groups work together to help advance cancer research.
Humbled by the challenges of a complicated cancer landscape, we’re faced with important questions, yet the video conveys hopefulness and a call for all of us to work together to improve lives by learning from the experiences of every cancer patient.
